Early Life and Background

Born on July 9, 1988, in Chicago, Illinois, Belal Muhammad is the son of Palestinian immigrants. His initial interest in wrestling began during his school years, a skill he continued to hone at the University of Illinois, alongside his studies in law. Ultimately, his profound passion for martial arts led him to pursue a career in the octagon rather than in the legal field.

Kickstarting His MMA Career

Belal Muhammad's professional journey in mixed martial arts commenced in 2012 with the Hoosier Fight Club promotion. His debut bout saw him secure a knockout victory over Justin Brock. Later that same year, he made a successful appearance in Bellator, where he triumphed over Quinton McCortell via unanimous decision.

From 2013 to 2015, Muhammad compiled an impressive record of eight victories across various promotions, including HFC, Bellator, and Titan FC.

April 2016 marked a significant milestone when he captured the Titan FC championship belt by defeating Steve Carl via technical knockout. This pivotal win paved the way for Belal to sign a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

The Ascent to the UFC: Key Bouts and Rivals

Belal made his highly anticipated UFC debut in the summer of 2016 at UFC Fight Night 90, held in Las Vegas on July 7. He stepped in on short notice to replace the injured Nordin Taleb, facing the seasoned veteran Alan Jouban.

The bout commenced with aggressive striking exchanges from Jouban, while Muhammad demonstrated competent defense and delivered precise counterattacks.

The intensity escalated in the subsequent rounds, with both fighters exchanging powerful blows and maintaining a relentless pace. Despite the fight concluding with a unanimous decision victory for Jouban, both competitors were recognized with the coveted 'Fight of the Night' award for their thrilling performance.

Undeterred by his debut loss, Belal Muhammad returned to the octagon just two months later to face Augusto Montaño at UFC Fight Night 94, eager to prove his capabilities.
